TCM Back Pain Treatment Singapore
Lower back pain affects 8 out of 10 Singaporeans at some point. TCM offers effective, drug-free relief by addressing the root cause — not just masking symptoms.
Why Does Your Back Hurt?
In TCM, back pain isn't just a mechanical problem — it's often a sign of underlying imbalances. The lower back is governed by the Kidney meridian, which stores our vital essence (Jing). When Kidney Qi is depleted through overwork, stress, or aging, the lower back becomes vulnerable.
Pain can also result from Qi and blood stagnation, often caused by poor posture, prolonged sitting, or sudden injury. Cold and dampness — common in Singapore's air-conditioned environments — can invade the meridians and cause chronic, dull aching.
Kidney Deficiency
Chronic dull ache, worse with fatigue, improves with rest. Common after 40 or with overwork.
Qi & Blood Stagnation
Sharp, stabbing pain in a fixed location. Often from injury or prolonged poor posture.
Cold-Damp Invasion
Heavy, stiff sensation worse in cold/damp weather. Pain improves with warmth.
Liver Qi Stagnation
Pain that moves around, often related to stress or emotional tension.
How We Treat Back Pain
Acupuncture
Needles at specific back points (BL23, BL25, GV4) release muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and stimulate endorphin release. Most patients feel relief within the first few sessions.
Cupping Therapy
Creates suction to increase blood flow, loosen tight muscles, and draw out cold/dampness. Particularly effective for muscle spasms and chronic stiffness.
Tui Na Massage
Deep tissue techniques along the Bladder meridian release knots, improve circulation, and restore proper alignment. Often combined with stretching.
Herbal Medicine
Customized formulas to tonify Kidney Qi, move blood stagnation, or expel cold-dampness depending on your diagnosis. Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang is commonly prescribed.
